Recovery (Sports & Remedial Massage)
I offer Sports and Remedial massage as part of my comprehensive soft tissue therapy services. The goal is to work with you to help alleviate pain and restore your ability to move freely and without discomfort.
This treatment goes beyond simple massage strokes, integrating both passive and active techniques to provide effective relief and healing. Contrary to popular belief sports massage does't has to and shouldn't be painful experience.
"Having a 9 - 5 job working at a desk I had an issue with my shoulder which I tried to ignore. After 3 months of dealing with pain, I wasn't able to sleep and in the end I decided to get help. Joanna took her time to find out what could be causing this issue and asked various questions to address it accordingly. I can say without a doubt she was very caring and highly attentive to understanding what was going on and finding the best possible solution to help me. She gave me guidance and an exercise program which I followed and after a couple of weeks, gradually, I was pain free.
Jo is absolutely fantastic and I didn't hesitate in booking her again."

To help you achieve your goals and ensure you receive the best possible care, the treatment consists of a four-step approach:
1. Listening

I would like to understand where you're at, how your condition is affecting your life and what are your expectations and goals. We will identify your concerns and collaboratively develop plan for improvement.
2. Assessment

During the assessment, I will check your mobility and existing range of motion in order to identify specific areas of discomfort and limitations.

Through combination of massage and movement techniques, I am aiming to reduce tension and pain, improve your mobility, and sooth the nervous system.
This is followed by the re-assesment to see the changes.

If applicable, I suggest a plan with simple, tailored exercises and movements.

Passive and Active
Techniques
Massage Therapy
Down regulates, relaxes and helps to relieve the tension and pain.
Muscle Energy Technique (MET)
is a type of osteopathic manual technique involving therapists as well as a client, that can result in releasing tension in restricted, hypertonic muscles, improving joint range of motion and reducing pain. It is performed through a series of resistance positions using isometric contraction of targeted muscles and joint mobilisation.
It is an excellent technique to use if you're suffering with limited movement, if the movement is painful or simply if you can't receive pressured treatment.
Soft Tissue Release
Helps to restore normal muscle length, through acting on neuromuscular system.
Trigger Point Therapy
consists of applying sustained pressure on the “sore spot” ( or "knot" if you prefer) this pressure needs to be however within your comfort. This technique is effective if you suffer with stiff, shortened muscles as it promotes sensation of relaxation of the muscles, reduction of pain and improved mobility.
